What can go into the bucket:
- Left-over kitchen food waste
- Cooked and uncooked food
- Fruit and vegetable peels
- Meat, fish, or chicken
- Chicken or fish bones
- Cheese
- Egg Shells
- Bread
- Coffee grinds/tea bags
- Even unprinted, white kitchen paper towels
Instruction for using the Bokashi Bran Composting Bucket:
- Keep a vegetable bowl or our counter container ready while preparing meals.
- Cut all waste into bite sizes
- Don’t leave food waste for more than 4 hours before adding it to your bucket
- Empty food into the Bokashi Bran bucket
- Compact down with a potato masher
- Sprinkle a scoop (100ml) of Bokashi Bran over the waste
- Make sure that your bucket is tightly sealed
- Repeat until the bucket is full
- Tap off the liquid (bokashi tea) at the bottom of the bucket
- Dilute 1:300 with water and feed to the roots of your plants
- Once the bin is full, continue to ferment for 2 weeks out of the direct sun
- Cocoon the waste in your compost heap and turn it every 4 to 5 weeks
- Waste will be decomposed after 7 weeks.
- Alternatively (if you do not have a compost heap): Dig a trench of 30 cm x 1 m and bury the contents.
- Only plant in this section after two weeks
